Today Show’s Steve Kornocki shocks co-anchors with Taylor Swift revelation nobody was expecting
It appears that NBC’s Steve Kornacki might have had a blank space in his pop culture knowledge. The renowned analyst made an appearance on the Today Show on September 29th, leaving co-anchors Jacob Soboroff and Sheinelle Jones in disbelief when he confessed to not knowing who Taylor Swift was.
Jacob initiated the humorous exchange by introducing Steve as, “NBC News national political correspondent, Steve Kornacki joins us, and here’s the deal.” He then revealed Steve’s lack of familiarity with Taylor Swift, saying, “Steve just said he didn’t know before this week who Taylor Swift was because he said, ‘Is she an actress? Was she a musician?'” Laughter ensued, with Jacob and Sheinelle jokingly suggesting that anyone who took a glance at Steve’s Instagram might find his lack of awareness more understandable. Sheinelle added playfully, “I may live under a rock, but you’re like [under a] rock rock.”
Steve, however, clarified his position, stating, “I knew she was prominent,” and concluded with, “I’ll put it that way, but I didn’t know the name.”
Steve gained widespread recognition during the 2020 United States presidential election for his distinctive analytical style, drawing new fans into the world of political math. His fashion choice of khakis also sparked a new trend.
During his appearance on the Today Show, Steve discussed Taylor Swift’s rumored relationship with Travis Kelce and compared their backgrounds. Both were born in 1989, but Taylor has been in the industry for 17 years, while Travis, a two-time Super Bowl champion, has spent 11 years with the Kansas City Chiefs.
The pair’s growing closeness made headlines, particularly after Taylor’s appearance at the Chiefs vs. Chicago Bears game on Sunday, September 24th, causing a stir in both the sports and entertainment worlds.
Later that night, video footage from Daily Mail revealed that Taylor left Travis’s upscale mansion in Kansas City with a group of his friends and family. They all boarded a party bus bound for Arrowhead Stadium, where they witnessed Travis scoring a touchdown, contributing to his team’s 41-10 victory.
An exuberant Taylor was seen cheering and celebrating Travis’s third-quarter touchdown reception, even engaging in a chest bump with Travis’ friends.
Travis and his brother Jason, a Philadelphia Eagles player, host a podcast called ‘New Heights,’ and in their recent episode, Travis commended Taylor’s decision to attend the game as “ballsy.”
He mentioned, “I just thought it was awesome how everybody in the suite had nothing but great things to say about her — the friends and family. She looked amazing, and everybody was talking about her in a positive light.”
Taylor has long been a fan of the NFL team, the Eagles, having spent her childhood outside the city before relocating to Nashville as a teenager.
During her Eras Tour concert in the city, she confirmed that the lyrics, “With my Eagles t-shirt hanging from the door,” from her song ‘Gold Rush’ off her 2020 album Evermore, refer to the football team, not the band. She enthusiastically told her screaming fans, “I did see the debate about, I have a lyric that says, ‘With my Eagles t-shirt hanging from the door,’ and I saw people wondering if it was the band Eagles or the team the Eagles, and I love the band but, come on, I am from Philly, of course it’s the team.”
