Jennifer Lopez Says Women Get Sexier as They Get Older: ‘Boundaries Don’t Exist for Me’
“They become more knowledgeable and richer in character,” Lopez expressed.
In Elle’s Women in Hollywood issue released on Thursday, the 54-year-old Jennifer Lopez shared her perspective on the increasing availability of acting roles for older women, embracing the beauty that accompanies aging.
“People have realized that women just get sexier as they get older. They get more learned and more rich with character,” she explained. “All of that is very beautiful and attractive, and not just physically, but on the inside, the beauty that you gain as you get older, the wisdom you gain.”
The Maid in Manhattan actress expressed her pleasure in witnessing a shift in Hollywood standards that now value women regardless of their age. “It has changed a lot, and I think it’s appropriate,” she conveyed to Elle.
“As you get older and you have more experience, you become a richer human being and you have more to offer. The idea of, ‘There’s nothing really valuable about watching a woman over 30’ is so ridiculous, it’s the opposite of right. It just makes me laugh,” she added.
Lopez highlighted that her core values, rooted in perseverance, drive her to keep pushing forward in her career. “I see myself working [as long as] I want to. I don’t know what that age is. It might be 70, it might be 80, it might be 90, I don’t know. But I know that it’s there for me if I want it and I want to create it,” she affirmed.
She emphasized her mindset of refusing to be confined by societal expectations based on her birthplace, age, or any other factor. When discussing her next project, Lopez expressed openness to trying something new, including the possibility of directing her own film.
“I want to keep evolving. And whether I’ll take the helm and direct my own film at one point is a possibility,” she shared, noting that she’s been offered directing opportunities but had to decline due to time constraints.
In addition to her cinematic pursuits, Lopez is gearing up for a musical comeback with her first album in nearly a decade, titled “This Is Me… Now,” set to release on Feb. 16. Accompanied by the documentary “This Is Me…Now: The Film,” the project promises a reimagining of her publicly scrutinized love life. Her upcoming single, “Can’t Get Enough,” is scheduled to be released on Jan. 10.
