Lil Wayne Reveals His New Orleans Super Bowl 2025 Halftime Show Goals and the Guests He’d Consider Bringing Along
Lil Wayne is setting his sights on the Super Bowl halftime show in his hometown of New Orleans in 2025. The Grammy-winning rapper expressed his aspirations during an interview with Bleacher Report’s Taylor Rooks, revealing his eagerness to take the stage at Caesars Superdome for Super Bowl LIX in February.
The 41-year-old rapper emphasized his desire for this achievement, comparing it to the excitement he felt seeing his name atop the Billboard magazine list in his earlier years. Despite recognizing that the halftime show isn’t directly related to the sport of football, Lil Wayne views it as a monumental accomplishment and a dream he’d love to fulfill in his native city.
Reflecting on the massive audience during the Louisiana Fest in front of his hometown crowd, Lil Wayne exclaimed, “And being in front of my city and seeing that many people is amazing. So to know that a Super Bowl would be…what?!” He also shared his past experiences attending Super Bowls, expressing a desire to have been part of the halftime show performances.
Addressing potential guest appearances, Lil Wayne made it clear that if he does secure the coveted halftime show, he won’t be bringing out any additional artists. He emphasized that it would be his moment, earned through his own accomplishments. However, he did leave the door open for exceptions, mentioning the possibility of bringing out a “New Orleans jazz great” or collaborating with Beyoncé.
“If I have a song with Beyoncé or something at the time… if I have a song with Beyoncé then of course,” he said. “That makes no sense not to. Other than that, Tay Tay [Swift] could make it, maybe. Tay Tay could make it. But if the Chiefs [are] actually playing in it, then no, we’re not doing it.”
For Lil Wayne, the opportunity to perform at the Super Bowl in his beloved city is a chance to showcase the uniqueness of New Orleans to the world. With Super Bowl LIX marking the return of the big game to New Orleans since 2013, the rapper envisions it as a platform to contribute to the city’s vibrant cultural showcase.
As Usher is set to headline this year’s halftime show at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Lil Wayne’s eyes are on the future, where he hopes to make a mark on the Super Bowl stage in the city that holds a special place in his heart.
