Ariana Grande Pays Tribute to Late Ex Mac Miller in Deluxe Album Release
Ariana Grande, at the age of 30, unveiled a special tribute to her late ex-boyfriend, Mac Miller, while reimagining her debut album, “Yours Truly.”
To commemorate the milestone anniversary of the 2013 record, Grande released a deluxe version on August 25th. This expanded edition of “Yours Truly” not only includes the beloved tracks that fans have cherished but also offers two fresh interpretations of her duet with Miller, titled “The Way” — a “Live From London” version and a “Spanglish” rendition.
In the “Live From London” recording, Grande’s remarkable vocal range takes the spotlight, setting the stage for Miller’s verse. Grande then proceeds to deliver the catchy lyrics with her signature high note, concluding the performance on a powerful note.
At the end of an official video shared on Grande’s YouTube channel, a small yet significant tribute to Miller appears, reading “Feat. Mac Miller” in white text against a black background.
Mac Miller isn’t the only one of Grande’s former flames to make an appearance on “Yours Truly.” She collaborated with ex Big Sean on the track “Right There,” which also receives a “Live From London” treatment in this re-release. Notably, its YouTube video lacks the shout-out that Miller received.
Grande and Miller had a close friendship before they began dating in 2016. Reflecting on their relationship, Grande shared with Cosmopolitan in 2017, “We have loved and adored and respected each other since the beginning, since before we even met, just because we were fans of each other’s talent. We weren’t ready at all, though, to be together. It’s just timing.”
The duo worked on six songs together over the years, including Miller’s 2016 track “My Favorite Part.”
In May 2018, Grande confirmed their breakup, and tragically, four months later, Miller passed away from an accidental drug overdose at the age of 26. Grande paid a heartfelt tribute to her ex-boyfriend on Instagram, expressing her deep sadness and regret.
Two years later, Grande fondly remembered Miller’s profound passion for music, stating in a May 2020 interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music’s Beats 1, “I think that nothing mattered more to him than music, ever.” She described him as a dedicated artist who poured every moment and thought into his music.
Following Miller, Grande had a well-publicized engagement to Pete Davidson in 2018, later dating Mikey Foster before marrying Dalton Gomez in May 2021. Reports confirmed their separation in July, amidst Grande’s on-set romance with Wicked co-star Ethan Slater.
