Britney Spears took to Instagram to address the public following her separation from her husband, Sam Asghari.
The iconic pop star, now 41, opened up about their impending divorce in a statement posted on Instagram last Friday, saying, “As everyone is aware, Hesam and I are no longer a couple… 6 years is a significant amount of time to spend with someone, so I must admit, I’m a bit taken aback. However, I’m not here to provide explanations because quite frankly, it’s nobody’s business!”
She went on, stating, “But, I couldn’t bear the pain any longer, to be honest! In a sort of telepathic way, I’ve been receiving countless heartwarming messages from friends, and I appreciate that! The facade of strength I’ve maintained for so long may seem perfect on my Instagram, but it’s far from reality, and I think we can all acknowledge that! I long to express my emotions and shed tears to convey my true feelings, but for some reason, I’ve always had to hide my vulnerabilities!”
Spears continued, “If I hadn’t been the unwavering soldier my father needed, I might have been sent to doctors for healing! But that’s when I needed my family the most! Love is supposed to be unconditional, not dependent on circumstances!”
In conclusion, Spears affirmed her determination, writing, “I will summon every ounce of strength I have and give it my all! And truth be told, I’m doing quite well! Anyway, have a wonderful day and remember to keep smiling!”
On Wednesday, PEOPLE confirmed that the singer and Asghari, 29, had separated after 14 months of marriage, with the actor initiating divorce proceedings on the same day.
After first meeting in 2016 while filming Spears’ “Slumber Party” music video, the couple got engaged in September 2021 and tied the knot on June 9, 2022.
Despite facing this challenging period, a source told PEOPLE that Spears remains in good spirits despite the circumstances. “It’s certainly not an easy situation to go through, but she’s maintaining a positive outlook and focusing on what’s ahead.”
The former couple, who insiders previously revealed had been experiencing difficulties for several months, made the decision to “move on a few weeks ago,” according to the same source.
Meanwhile, Spears is keeping herself busy with various professional projects, including an upcoming book release and new music endeavors.
