Ed Sheeran and Chris Hemsworth Pose with Thor’s Hammer Mjölnir in the Singer’s 2023 Recap
In a year-end photo collection, Ed Sheeran, the renowned singer-songwriter, reminisced about an amusing encounter with the God of Thunder, Chris Hemsworth, as they jointly wielded Thor’s legendary hammer, Mjölnir.
The snapshot, shared as part of Sheeran’s 2023 recap post, depicted the two celebrities giving the camera an intense gaze while gripping the iconic hammer. Sheeran captioned the post, “2023 dump. See ya in 2024 have a good one yeah nice one love you.”
The entertaining crossover initially took place in February when Sheeran engaged in a playful instrument exchange with Hemsworth. The singer gifted the Marvel star a guitar, and in return, he received Thor’s mighty hammer. Hemsworth playfully documented the trade in a video, referring to it as “an instrumental trade-off between two blokes.”
In the video, Sheeran expressed his fondness for trading tools and humorously stated that Hemsworth was his next target. The exchange involved Sheeran giving Hemsworth one of his acoustic stage guitars, with the actor reciprocating by presenting him with Mjölnir. The word “WORTHY” appeared over Sheeran’s face as the exchange took place, and both men signed each other’s “tools.”
Jokingly, Sheeran suggested they should trade professions, a notion Hemsworth seemed to entertain as he playfully showcased his guitar-playing skills on the new instrument.
Hemsworth, who has portrayed the God of Thunder in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2011’s Thor, humorously revealed in a 2022 interview that Mjölnir tends to move around his home, from the toy box to the mantlepiece, and occasionally ends up in the bathroom.
The actor has embraced the role of Thor in eight films, most recently in 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. In a Vanity Fair interview from November, Hemsworth expressed openness to revisiting the iconic superhero role if there were “something unique and fresh and unexpected” for the character and the world. He acknowledged his gratitude for the diverse experiences he’s had playing the on-screen hero over the years.
