George Clooney reveals how he first met wife Amal as he breaks silence on sale of Lake Como villa
“The Ticket to Paradise” star reveals his romantic side. Hollywood icon George Clooney, who surprised fans when he married lawyer Amal Alamuddin in 2014, recently shared more about their early days together during an interview with Drew Barrymore on her talk show.
Barrymore asked Clooney about his initial thoughts upon meeting Amal in 2013 at his Lake Como, Italy home. The actor reminisced about how his agent played matchmaker, saying, “He called me up and said, ‘There’s a girl coming to your house that you’re going to marry,’ and I said, ‘You’re an idiot, that’s not going to happen.'”
However, destiny had other plans, as Clooney revealed that they “stayed up all night talking” and he began writing her love letters. The revelation of handwritten letters left Drew Barrymore and her audience pleasantly surprised, celebrating the timeless romantic gesture.
George and Amal initially met at Villa Oleandra, his Lake Como residence, which he acquired in 2002. This historic property, purchased for around $10 million, boasts an estimated worth of over $100 million today. The villa complex includes four adjacent villas, totaling over 32,000 square feet of floor space, with additional lakefront features such as two docks and a pier. The main villa consists of 25 rooms, a swimming pool, a spacious garage, tennis court, gym, and numerous Italian architectural details.
Despite rumors of selling due to paparazzi intrusion, George and Amal Clooney continue to call Villa Oleandra home, where they are raising their six-year-old twins. Additionally, they recently purchased property in Provence, Italy. Responding to the speculation about selling the property, George stated, “The first I heard of it was when Page Six published the story,” and clarified, “Everyone picked it up. It’s not true,” through his representatives, as reported by People magazine.
