Gisele Bunchen says she was only ‘surviving’ during marriage to NFL star Tom Brady
Gisele Bundchen, at the age of 43, and Tom Brady, the NFL star, welcomed two children into their lives.
The news of Gisele Bundchen‘s divorce from Tom Brady, an NFL icon, after 14 years of marriage, took many by surprise. In a forthcoming interview on CBS News Sunday Morning airing on September 24, the model has shared insights into their separation, acknowledging that they didn’t “evolve together” over the years.
“I believe that before, I was more in survival mode, and now I’m truly living, which is a different experience,” she disclosed during her conversation with anchor Lee Cowan. Gisele, a mother of two, candidly admitted that while she didn’t desire the divorce, she recognized it was the right decision.
“I think it’s not what I had envisioned or hoped for. My parents have celebrated 50 years of marriage, and I genuinely wished for the same,” shared the 43-year-old about her relationship with the retired NFL legend. “But, I think you have to understand that sometimes, the way you are in your 20s, you either grow together or grow apart.”
She continued, “He’s the father of my children. So, I always wish him the best, and I’m profoundly grateful that he blessed me with wonderful children.”
The couple shares two children, a 13-year-old son named Benjamin and a ten-year-old daughter named Vivian.
Gisele and Tom disclosed their separation in October 2022, reportedly due to disagreements over his decision to return to the NFL. After retiring in 2021, Tom made a comeback for another season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers later the same year.
In the nearly one year since their divorce, the two have been consistently supportive of each other, occasionally expressing their encouragement on social media. Gisele, for instance, reacted positively to Tom’s second retirement announcement from the NFL in February 2023, writing, “Wishing you only wonderful things in this new chapter of your life.”
This CBS interview is not the first time Gisele has opened up about the heartbreak. She had previously discussed the challenges with Vanity Fair earlier in the year, emphasizing how tough it had been because “you envision your life going a certain way, and you give it your all, you know?”
“You invest all your efforts to realize your dreams,” she added. “You pour your heart and soul into it, and it’s heartbreaking when it doesn’t turn out the way you had hoped and worked for, but you can only do your part.”
However, Gisele has embraced a new perspective on life, making significant changes. She has returned to the Victoria’s Secret brand, launched a campaign with Louis Vuitton, and made her solo appearance on the 2023 Met Gala red carpet, the first time without Tom since 2008.
Additionally, she has been announced as Gaia Herbs’ first wellness ambassador and is gearing up for the launch of her own cookbook titled “Nourish,” which is available for pre-order now.
