Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez officially concluded their divorce journey in 2023, marking the end of a marriage that had dissolved back in 2015. The legal process, which extended over several years, was primarily due to unresolved matters related to their son, Maceo, who is now 9 years old. Custody arrangements and child support have finally been settled, and despite having a prenuptial agreement, significant financial responsibilities now rest upon Berry. Here are the details of the agreement, according to TMZ.
Details of the Agreement
Legal documents filed with the L.A. County Superior Court have detailed the terms of their agreement. Child support was a major point of discussion, and they have opted for a shared arrangement for both legal and physical custody of Maceo. Berry will contribute a monthly sum of $8,000 to Martinez, in addition to an incremental 4.3 percent of all income she earns above $2 million.
Furthermore, Berry will cover Maceo’s expenses for private school, extracurricular activities (including soccer), and his medical and dental insurance needs. Additionally, any unforeseen medical expenses not covered by insurance will be financially managed by Berry.
In terms of custody scheduling, Berry will have Maceo from Monday through Wednesday, while Martinez will take over from Wednesday through Friday. Joint custody will be alternated during the weekends.
The documentation also specifies that Maceo will actively participate in individual and collective counseling sessions, in a setting where Berry, her daughter Nahla (from a previous relationship with Gabriel Aubry), and Maceo can engage as a family.
Berry’s New Relationship
While her marriage with Martinez did not endure, the 57-year-old actress has found love again with Van Hunt, a musician. They appear content and deeply committed to each other. Importantly, Maceo, who played a central role in the divorce proceedings, has given his approval of the new relationship.
Last year in January, Berry spoke with AARP, expressing her happiness about her relationship with the singer. She revealed that Maceo had even organized a “commitment ceremony” for them in the backseat of a car.
“My son, Maceo, of his own volition, did this little commitment ceremony for us in the back seat of the car,” she fondly recalled. “I think he finally sees me happy, and it’s infectious. It was his way of saying, ‘This is good. I like this. This makes me happy,'” she added.
The heartfelt ceremony brought tears to their eyes. “It was a very real moment for all of us. I teared up, Van was fighting back tears. Even Maceo knew he’d said something poignant. It meant a lot to us,” she shared.
Hunt also has a son of his own, and Berry considers them a “modern family.” She emphasized that her primary concern is her children’s well-being in this contemporary, blended family setup.
