Jennifer Lawrence Likely Won’t Return to Hunger Games, Says Producer: ‘I Think Her Story Is Complete’
The possibility of more stories featuring Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen in the Hunger Games franchise may not be in the fans’ favor, according to producer Nina Jacobson. While Lawrence recently expressed her openness to revisiting the character, Jacobson believes that any potential return of Katniss would hinge on author Suzanne Collins’ decision to write a new book.
In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Jacobson discussed the upcoming release of the prequel film, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” which is based on Collins’ 2020 novel. She stated, “If Suzanne has something to say, then she’ll write a book about it.” Jacobson added that she personally believes that Katniss’s story is already complete, a sentiment she believes Collins shares.
However, Jacobson also emphasized her enthusiasm for returning to the Hunger Games world if the author were to decide otherwise, regardless of the central character. Lawrence and director Francis Lawrence share a similar perspective, stating that any potential continuation of Katniss’s story would depend on thematic ideas and Suzanne Collins.
Jennifer Lawrence, in a separate interview with Variety, expressed her eagerness to reprise the role of Katniss, stating that she would be “totally” open to it if the right opportunity and theme arose.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” stars Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler and delves into the backstory of Coriolanus Snow, the future tyrannical president of Panem. The film also features an ensemble cast including Hunter Schafer, Peter Dinklage, Viola Davis, Jason Schwartzman, and Josh Andrés Rivera. The movie is set to hit theaters on November 17.
