The former Madrid player does not believe that the midfielder is still at the level of the two British legends
Jude Bellingham’s exceptional start to the season has garnered widespread acclaim, with many considering him among the best players globally. However, former Real Madrid and Liverpool player Michael Owen doesn’t believe the midfielder has reached the stature of two Premier League legends.
Owen expressed his opinion, stating, “Even if he secures LaLiga, the Champions League, and the Euro Cup, he won’t surpass Gerrard or Lampard in the short term. He won’t be in their league,” during an interview with Boyle Sports. Owen, who played alongside Lampard in the national team and Gerrard at Liverpool, where they achieved multiple domestic cup titles and even a UEFA and a European Super Cup, holds these legends in high regard.
Despite his comparison, Owen acknowledged that if Bellingham manages to secure these prestigious titles in the current season, he would rightfully be acknowledged as the best player in the world for that particular season. “I would win the Ballon d’Or and deservedly so,” added Owen, who himself received this esteemed individual trophy in 2001, making him the last Englishman to achieve such an honor.
