Savannah Guthrie supported by Today co-stars as she shares details of emotional night out
Savannah Guthrie frequently embarks on assignments beyond the confines of NBC studios in New York City, but her most recent venture holds particular significance. On a Thursday morning’s segment of the Today Show, the seasoned journalist broadcasted from Washington D.C. instead of the customary Rockefeller Plaza. The night before, she attended the annual Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s Hidden Heroes Gala, an event close to her heart.
Savannah has served as an ambassador for the foundation for the past five years. This organization is dedicated to honoring and providing support to veterans and their caregivers who assist them in coping with combat-related disabilities and mental health challenges.
Fresh from the inspiring gala, which featured the presence of notable figures like Adam Driver, a former marine, and Tom Hanks, the foundation’s chairman, Savannah took to both Instagram and the Today Show to shine a spotlight on the foundation’s work and, notably, the caregivers it champions.
During her appearance on the show, she shared that there “wasn’t a dry eye in the house” as the event paid special tribute to male caregivers. Savannah expressed the emotional impact of meeting caregivers and hearing their stories, emphasizing the importance of uplifting them.
“It was a beautiful night,” she remarked. Savannah also commended Adam Driver, who won the Caregiver Champion award, for delivering a moving speech. She mentioned that she herself received the same honor just last year.
In a separate segment, while interviewing some of the honored caregivers, Savannah aptly stated, “I always say caregivers are serving our country as well when they are taking care of our veterans who served and sacrificed so much for us.”
On her Instagram, Savannah posted photos from the memorable evening, expressing her gratitude for being with the remarkable military caregivers and for highlighting their stories. She extended her thanks to the Elizabeth Dole Foundation and Hidden Heroes and praised her co-host, Tom Hanks. She also congratulated Adam Driver.
Her followers flooded the comments section with praise, with one fan referring to her as the “Best ambassador ever!” and others expressing their awe with “Wow” and strings of red heart emojis.
When Savannah received the Caregiver Champion award the previous year, she lauded the caregivers in her speech, noting that they had taught her valuable qualities such as courage, determination, duty, faith, and hope. Above all, she saw love in these remarkable individuals.
